Reinvent Education

Managing and analyzing fashion trends and personal style has traditionally relied on methods such as surveys, attending fashion shows, or observing street fashion.

However, these approaches are becoming increasingly outdated in today’s digital age. With the rise of social media as a dominant platform for personal expression and trend observation, the need for a more modern and effective solution has emerged.

Challenge : EdTech

For fashion students at HKDI, the challenge was to find a contemporary and efficient way to capture and analyze personal fashion data. The traditional methods of gathering fashion data were not only time-consuming but also limited in scope and accuracy. They required significant effort and did not always provide a comprehensive view of current trends or individual fashion habits.
The goal was to create a solution that harnesses the power of social media to gather real-time fashion data. By simulating a social media app specifically designed for fashion, we could offer a more streamlined and modern approach to data collection. The Wardrobe Connect app was envisioned as a tool to capture detailed daily fashion choices of students over a period of two weeks. This would allow students to obtain a rich dataset reflecting their fashion usage and preferences.
This modern approach would enable students to bypass outdated methods and engage with a data collection process that is both relevant and aligned with current digital trends. By leveraging the app’s capabilities, students could seamlessly document and analyze their fashion choices, ultimately gaining valuable insights into their style and trends in a way that traditional methods could not offer.

Our Solution

To tackle these challenges, we developed the Wardrobe Connect app—a versatile tool designed to revolutionize wardrobe management. The solution integrates several key features to offer a comprehensive and interactive experience:

Users can register their fashion items quickly and easily using NFC technology. By scanning NFC tags embedded in clothing, users can instantly record details about their items, including brand, size, color, and care instructions. This function simplifies the process of adding new items to the virtual wardrobe and ensures accurate data entry of the clothing they wear.

The app features an intuitive sorting function that allows users to categorize their fashion items based on various parameters such as type, color, and occasion. This functionality helps users maintain an organized wardrobe and easily locate items when needed.

Users can showcase their fashion outfits by sharing them on social media platforms directly from the app. This feature not only allows users to display their personal style but also encourages social interaction and engagement with their fashion choices.

Wardrobe Connect includes a reminder system that notifies users about low-usage fashion items. This helps users keep track of items they haven’t worn recently, prompting them to incorporate these pieces into their outfits and make the most of their wardrobe.

The app enables users to create fashion outfits, monitor their wardrobe usage. These features facilitate better planning and help users make informed decisions about their clothing choices.

Users can track their wearing statistics to analyze their fashion habits. This feature provides insights into how frequently items are worn, helping users make more informed decisions about their wardrobe.

Wardrobe Connect also serves as a valuable tool for students. The app provides raw data on fashion usage, which students can use for analysis in their projects. This integration supports academic research and offers practical experience in working with real-world data.

Conclusion: We create digital ideas that are bigger, bolder, braver and better.

The Wardrobe Connect app successfully addresses the complexities of modern wardrobe management by integrating NFC technology, sorting, sharing, and reminder functionalities into a single, user-friendly platform. By providing an efficient way to register, organize, and track fashion items, the app meets the needs of both individual users and students. The ability to showcase outfits on social media and receive reminders about low-usage items enhances the overall user experience, making wardrobe management both practical and enjoyable.

The development of the prototype allowed stakeholders to visualize the app’s potential and provided valuable insights for future enhancements. Feedback from hands-on interactions with the prototype will guide the refinement process, ensuring that the final product is well-tuned to user needs and expectations. The collaboration between NFC Touch Ltd and HKDI has resulted in a robust demo application that not only showcases the app's capabilities but also supports academic research and data analysis. As the project progresses, Wardrobe Connect is poised to become an indispensable tool for fashion enthusiasts and students alike, transforming the way we manage and engage with our wardrobes.
